Bozeman Area Attractions

If you decide to take a break from fly fishing for a day there is no need to worry about boredom. Bozeman and the surrounding area is full of pristine hiking trails and an abundance of other outdoor activities. Celebrate the Montana wilderness by throwing on some hiking shoes and getting outside. There are many great hiking trails in the area but a few have especially spectacular scenery. The Golden Trout Lake trail is about five miles round trip and takes an estimated two hours. The hike difficulty is easy to moderate and fishing is possible at the larger lake. If you are looking for a shorter hike to an equally magnificent destination then Palisade Falls is just the hike for you. This estimated thirty minute hike is about 1.25 miles round trip and the trail is asphalt coated. The destination: an eighty foot waterfall result of  prehistoric lava flow. Lastly, Hell Roaring is a 4+ mile hike (round trip) and takes 2+ hours. This pristine trail winds through the Montana wilderness past continuous displays of cascading water and pools. The trail climbs a ridge and crosses Hell Roaring Creek.

Aside from hiking, the Bozeman area provides many other outdoor activities such as mountain biking, horse back riding, and a relaxing swim in the natural hot springs.  

Hot Pools:

  • The crystal clear water at the Bozeman Hot Springs flows strait from a geothermal well on site. The nine pools that make up the hot springs range in temperatures from 59 to 106 degrees Fahrenheit. The Bozeman Hot Springs are open Monday through Saturday and are the perfect getaway if you are looking to relax and rejuvenate. Horse Back Riding:

  • Flying Pig Adventure Company provides two hour to overnight horse back rides through scenic back country overlooking Yellowstone National Park. All rides are great for beginner horse back riders but the two hour ride is best for first timers. Their phone number is (866) 807 0744.

Mountain Bike Trails:

  • Emerald lake is a 4.5 mile single track trail that can be technical at times. It is a good ride for most reasonably fit riders with a good mountain bike. 
  • Grassy Mountain Loop is a 16 mile loop. With exceptional scenery this trail is an advanced bikers delight. 
  • Mystic Lake Loop is located 10 miles southeast of Bozeman and frames the shores of Mystic Lake. It is about a three mile loop.
