The Gallatin River is a very productive trout stream that fishes well year-round. It flows through meadows in its upper reaches, a scenic limestone canyon in its mid section, and the fertile Gallatin Valley in its lower reaches. Brown, rainbow, cutthroat, cutbow, and brook trout, and some grayling, are found along the river’s course. The trout average 10”-14”, but larger fish are frequently caught. With easy access, this is an excellent wade fishing river close to Bozeman.
