Montana Fly Fishing Guides
Chad Olsen
Chad Olsen is the founder, owner and head guide of Greater Yellowstone Flyfishers. Chad established Greater Yellowstone Flyfishers in 1993. Initially Chad based his fledgling guide service out of Cooke City, Montana from 1993-1995. During these early days Chad led guided fishing trips in Yellowstone Park and southwest Montana. In 1996 Chad obtained his Montana outfitters license and opened up his first fly shop in Cooke City. From 1996-1999 the Cooke City store gained a reputation for quality service and products, plus a large selection of flies. In 1999 Chad expanded with a second fly shop in Bozeman. After two years of operating both stores the decision was made to down-size and close the Cooke City store in order to be more competitive and focus his time, resources and efforts into growing the Bozeman business. In a matter of a few short years Greater Yellowstone Flyfishers has quickly become one of the premier fly shops in the area. Chad has been fishing Montana and Yellowstone for over 15 years and guiding in the area for over 11 years. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and passion of flyfishing and the area with his friends and clients. Chad grew up in Denver, Colorado where he was raised in a very outdoor oriented family. His younger days found him hiking, backpacking and exploring the Colorado Rockies. He picked up flyfishing when he was twelve and hasn't been the same since. Chad has been involved in the fly fishing industry for many years. He tied flies commercially for over 15 years for various shops around the country and worked for Henry's Fork Anglers and Lee's Ferry Anglers. He actively supports many conservation and fishing organizations such as Trout Unlimited, Federation of Fly Fishers, Greater Yellowstone Coalition, Beartooth Alliance and more. In the off-season you'll find Chad busily working in his shop preparing for the coming season and traveling to trade shows, as well as speaking and presenting slide shows to various clubs, organizations and fly shops. In his free time Chad enjoys sports, hiking, backpacking, photography, travel, fine food and wine, and, of course, fly fishing and exploring the Greater Yellowstone Area. E-mail Chad Olsen! Eric Dobbs Eric Dobbs has spent much of his life fishing the waters of the West and traveling to such destinations as Patagonia, Terra Del Fuego, Argentina, Costa Rica, Mexico, and the Bahamas. He has been guiding for seven years in Montana and on Utah's Green River. Eric is very affable and unusually patient instructor that takes pride in teaching people the nuances of fly fishing. From the complete novice to the well traveled fly fishers, rest assured that a day out with Eric will be a trip to remember for a life time. In addition to guiding, Eric is also involved with the management of Greater Yellowstone. Marketing for the fly shop and travel to trade shows keep him busy most of the year. When Eric is not on the river or in the shop, chances are you can find him planning a trip to some far away destination for a little fishing or surfing. He is also a familiar face at Montana newest ski area, Moonlight Basin. E-mail Eric Dobbs! Chuck Borg Chuck Borg was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and has a passion for the outdoors. All of his life Chuck has spent time exploring the National Parks and Forests of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. He has been fishing since a youth growing up in Washington and very much enjoys sharing his knowledge of fly fishing with those around him. Chuck graduated in 1999 from Lewis & Clark College in Portland with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. In addition to fishing the Northwest Chuck has also spent time Patagonia, Chile and British Columbia. As well as guiding, Chuck is also assistant manager for Greater Yellowstone Flyfishers so when he’s not on the river it’s a pretty good bet that you’ll find him working hard at the shop. During the winter you can bet Chuck will be hitting the slopes at Bridger Bowl or Big Sky.
Tim Schwarze Tim has lived and fished throughout the West all of his life. This will be his sixth summer in the Bozeman Area. An accomplished commercial fly tier and a seasonal fisheries employee with the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, Tim prides himself with his knowledge of the area rivers and their flora, fauna, and history. He is a very patient teacher with a sense of humor and an easy going personality.
